Reaching Real Moms

get born started as a quarterly literary magazine, made up of essay-driven content from mothers and their allies, including poetry, and extraordinary literary photography, providing the canon of motherhood with realistic portrayals of real moms in real-time.

In 2008, Heather Janssen, the founder and executive editor, was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, but through the help and support of readers, advertiser, and writers, the magazine continued to be published until the winter of 2010. At that time, the administrative tasks and circulation challenges became too great, and the magazine ceased publication. Since then, get born has relaunched as an online community, with a team of over 30 bloggers bringing real truth to the site every day, and a very active Facebook community where readers can get a bite-sized chunk of good mother snark–to go, as it were.

While the magazine no longer arrives in hard copy at our loyal readers’ doors, our audience has grown immeasurably since 2010. get born tribe readers are primarily middle to upper class, college educated mothers and grandmothers ages 22-65. Our readers are married with children–infant through late school-age–for whom honesty is imperative, who think deeply, who are learning to laugh at themselves, and who seek to develop themselves as women in every facet: emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and, of course, in their mothering.

Our marketing research shows that get born readers remember ads that are both highly visual and somewhat edgy. The ads they remember the most are custom designed by our graphic artist. In order to provide the highest quality and return on investment for our advertisers, we have built the cost of custom design into our pricing.
